Marymount International School is a Catholic co-educational day school
founded in 1946 as one of a worldwide system of schools directed by the
Religious of the Sacred Heart of Mary. Like the other Marymount International
Schools in London and Paris, Marymount Rome has pledged itself to the
goal of providing an education based on Christian values. Today a strong
academic spirit flourishes at Marymount enhanced by modern facilities,
a dedicated faculty and a very attractive campus.
THE SCHOOL - The school is divided into the Elementary School (Early Childhood
through Grade 5); Middle School (Grade 6 through Grade 8); and High School
(Grade 9 through Grade 12). The school is located in the exclusive residential
area of Vigna Clara, on the north edge of Rome's center. The tranquil
16-acre green campus features four buildings including the original Villa
Lauchli. Facilities include well-appointed classrooms, four science and
two computer laboratories, two spacious libraries with multi-media centers,
art and music studios, an auditorium, Early Childhood Center and dining
room. There are state-of -the-art computers and high-speed Internet connections
in the classrooms.
THE PROGRAM OF STUDIES - The Program of Studies is based on the American
system of education and the International Baccalaureate program. Classes
are small. The school participates in the American testing program, the
National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test and College Board Entrance
Examinations including the SAT and ACT. Students in the Elementary School
study Italian. French and Spanish are also offered in the Secondary School.
Student support services include two learning specialists, ESL teachers,
a college counselor, school counselor and specialists in the subjects
of art, physical education, music and languages.
ACTIVITIES - A full range of varsity sports are offered in high school
with competition in the DoDD's league throughout Italy and Europe. Co-curricular
offerings include drama, photography, Student Council, National Honor
Society, campus ministries, Model United Nations, newspaper, and discovery
trips. Elementary and middle school students can choose from a variety
of indoor and outdoor activities in the after-school hours and compete
in sports tournaments. Private lessons in piano, voice, guitar, violin,
flute and cello are offered. Extensive bus service and hot lunch are available.
There are regular field trips in Rome, around Italy and abroad. The school
welcomes parent participation through the very supportive Parents' Organization.
ACCREDITATION - Marymount is accredited by the New England Association
of Schools and Colleges, and the European Council of International Schools.
The school is approved to offer the American High School Diploma and the
International Baccalaureate Diploma.
