"Core"was founded in 1983 and is staffed by qualified, experienced British and Commonwealth teachers. The school began in a small way and over the last years we have been able to maintain the original familiar atmosphere where children of many nationalities, cultures and religious backgrounds, learn to live and work together in harmony. The school policy is to keep classes small so that each child receives individual attention and is encouraged to reach his or her full potential. All lessons are conducted in English and emphasis is placed on the children acquiring a sound understanding of the three basic skills. Our Nursery Department, which caters for children from three to five years old, provides a gentle transition from home to school life. Through art, craft, music and movement and drama activities children are introduced to the basic concepts. Language development plays an important role in the discovery and exploration of different materials and learning situations. Number concepts and reading skills are introduced in an atmosphere designed to produce a positive attitude towards future learning. The Primary Department offers, in addition to the basic skills, a rich course in history, geography and the sciences. Trips into Rome and the surrounding area are organised, on a regular basis to augment these studies.
The school is well equipped and uses the extensive library, video and computer aided study programmes to good advantage.
All children, from five to eleven, take part in an Italian language course. During the first two years this consists of stories, games, etc. designed to enrich vocabulary. In the following four years pupils are offered the choice of continuing the oral programme or joining an intensive course, with a qualified Italian teacher, in reading, writing and grammar in preparation for entry into the Italian school system.Once a year all children in the Primary (5-11yrs) take part in a two/three day trip out of Rome. This is connected with their current studies or is an art and craft/music and movement experience.Qualified help is available for children with special needs and English as a second language.
