Castelli Intemational School is a bìlingual, co-educational day school catering to children from Grades 1 through 8. Founded in 1977, it is beautifully situated on a hilltop overlooking Rome, surrounded by vineyards and olive groves. Its primary objective is to provide a rich academic and linguistic environment for international families living in the south of Rome or Castelli areas. Strong links are forged between the parents and the school so that there is a sense of community and security for the child, as families make friends and share activities outside the school as well as within the school.
Although the school has expanded since its inception, the objectives have remained the same. Classes are small, and an informal friendly teacher-student relationship is maintained in order to reinforce and encourage the individual development of each child. The students are encouraged to learn independently in a variety of environments which enables them to become confident and socially well-adjusted. The multi-faceted programme and its emphasis on meeting the individual needs of the child helps the student deal maturely with his/her responsibilities. The bilingual programme successfully integrates the Italian and English curriculum.
The full-time faculty of the elementary department is primarily British trained and the part-time staff are professionals in their field. Upon completion of the fifth year, the children following the bilingual programme take the Italian State Examinations and receive their elementary school certification. Parents who do not wish to enter their child into this programme may opt for Italian as a foreign language. French as a second language is introduced in the 5th grade and continues through the 8th grade as an integral part of the programme. In addition CNED french (an individualised programme preparing french nationals for re-entry into french speaking schools) is offered at cost.
The middle school faculty are all university graduates and specialists in their fields. Upon entry into the middle school, students follow the core curriculum of english, italian, mathematics, history, geography, science, french, art and art history, technical education, music, physical education, library and computer studies. latin is compulsory in the 8th grade.
After-school activities are at cost and vary from year to year. These may include: languages, computer studies, sports, scouts, dance, drama, music and arts and craft.
Our students have successfully entered English speaking schools throughout the world as well as the scientific, classical, linguistic and artistic "licei" in Italy.
The school is closed in August.
